๐Ÿ“ About this font

Twemoji (short for Twitter Emoji) is a set of emoji originally developed by Twitter (now X) for its platform and released as an open-source project in 2014. It is one of the most influential open-source emoji projects in internet history, fundamentally changing how emoji are rendered on the web.

Although commonly referred to as the "Twemoji font," it is important to note that Twitter's official open-source assets are SVG (vector) and PNG (bitmap) files, not traditional .ttf or .woff2 font files. In web development, we typically use a JS library to dynamically replace Unicode characters with Twemoji SVG images, or use community-packaged font files for consistent rendering. The graphic resources are released under CC-BY 4.0, and the related code under the MIT license.

After Twitter rebranded to X, the official repository was deprioritized; the community (jdecked/twemoji) has since taken over maintenance to keep up with the latest Unicode versions.

Twemoji's design is flat, with rounded, cute shapes, and is widely used on Twitter and other social media platforms.
